What is solar energy?
Solar energy originally comes from the sun. Solar which means sun have light energy or we call it “sunlight” which is the main source of energy in this planet. Before we have all these technology, the sun has been used for many things such as for drying animal’s skin and growing crops.
But if sunlight is mixed with the technology that we have, what could it be? We know that sunlight have big and almost unlimited, so how we going to use it?
How is solar energy used?
After a period of time, people started to create electricity. Lamps replaced candles, electric train replaced coal train and so on. But do this electricity unlimited? We know that electricity is generated by coal power plant, nuclear power plant and hydroelectricity which operated by water, but how about sunlight? Yes, sunlight, the renewable, unlimited source of power.
Now people started to use solar panels to generate electricity from the sunlight, but how it works? Solar panels consist of layers of materials called semiconductors. Each one of these made up of millions of atoms. Atoms have positive charged called nucleus and negative charged called electrons that sin around the nucleus. When those materials putted together, the electrons are pulled from the bottom half to the top half of the layers. But, all there electrons is attached to the nucleus. And this is the part when the sunlight is involved. The sunlight has great energy that will knock the electrons from the nucleus and the electrons will be free to be pulled to the top of the layers and electricity will be generated.
What are the benefits of using solar energy?
In many ways solar energy have been used for many things like drying our clothes, dry animal’s skins etc. but solar energy never ran out of power. One good thing about it is that solar energy does not need fuel to make it operate. That is why satellite is made up of solar panels to give it power. Another good thing is that solar power does not produce any waste product or pollutions like coal power plant does.
